Wouter Klaassen, a master student in Physics
"My name is Wouter Klaassen and at this moment I’m a master student in Physics. As part of this research master, I have chosen to do the Science Based Business (SBB) Specialisation. I want a career in business and to me, SBB seemed the best way to achieve this goal."

“As a part of the SBB Master Specialisation I have done the SBB Fundamentals course and the Orientation on Technopreneurship (OoT will merge into Research Based Business per September 2010, red.) Currently I’m working on my final SBB-internship at Corus, IJmuiden (June 2010).”
- Case studies: an abslotue strong point of teaching
“The SBB Fundamentals course provides a very broad base of information that has helped to deepen my understanding of how a company works. An absolute strong point is their method of teaching: by case studies. By working on case studies that originate from real situations, the theoretical concepts become more tangible and their function becomes evident.
For me the experience with working in different groups and especially the project management assignment by Eric Spaans turns out to be very useful in my internship at Corus.
Although the course OoT can very well be done without any preliminary knowledge, it fits perfectly in the bigger picture of SBB Fundamentals. It has the same approach of case studies, but because it is focused on scientific start-ups, it is able to go pretty deep into the matter.
I found it very cool that besides more theoretical concepts and case studies there was also one experienced entrepreneur invited to every meeting and their experiences and observations provided an near endless loath of interesting information.
One more thing that is not only discussed in class but also put into practice is the networking. And although I’m still a bit skeptical about all the career possibilities and boosts that it can give me, I certainly see the fun of drinking a beer or two and meeting lots of new people.”
